It is an honor to be part of the 3DMJ Coaching Team and I am privileged to help you on your quest. Who am I and how can I help you achieve your goals? Perhaps a brief history into my past is in order.
I did not set out to be a Pro Bodybuilder. My quest instead started as a quest to avoid back surgery. In fact, I remember one summer day in 1998, I was working out and a friend of mine asked if I ever thought of becoming a bodybuilder. “Oh NO,” I replied. “I could never live that kind of lifestyle.” That old saying, never say never was definitely applicable as I evolved from actively doing physical therapy to treat back pain and sciatica from a Grade II Spondylolisthesis to years later becoming a Professional in Natural Bodybuilding.
My passion to evolve as an athlete and bodybuilder quickly spilled over into a passion to help others. In March of 2002, I made a HUGE leap of faith by purchasing a struggling and poorly equipped fitness center. Adding my own equipment to the equipment I had purchased, I started Healthy Bodies Fitness. Soon after, I started the “Healthy Body Challenge.” Not dissimilar to the “Body for Life” program or “Biggest Loser,” the Healthy Body Challenge has helped dozens of people lose hundreds of pounds and change their lives for the better for seven years straight.
In 2003, I not only started competing in bodybuilding myself, but I also began coaching other very motivated individuals for bodybuilding competition. Nothing compares to seeing those you have helped over months and months excel and I have been fortunate enough to see some of my clients reach their all time best condition.
In 2006, I quit my full time job as an x-ray technologist to take on Healthy Bodies Fitness full time. Continuing with the tradition of helping others transform for the better, Healthy Bodies became very successful and a newer and larger facility was needed. In April of 2006, we relocated into a 2,000 square foot facility conveniently located next to a hotel. Making this move has made helping others become more prevalent, but more difficult at the same time. As a coach I have learned over the years that helping those who are really committed is rare. So when you find that rare individual, it is very exciting.
In 2008, I earned my Professional status with the WNBF while simultaneously becoming certified in Russian Kettlebell Training. Kettlebell training is gaining popularity and the strength, stamina, flexibility and co-ordination gained by the trainee is visible each week. Some are slower than others, but with consistent execution, the gains are inevitable making my RKC certification very valuable in helping others attain their goals
In 2009, I successfully made my Professional Debut in Bodybuilding at the WNBF Pro US Cup in Sacramento. Two months later I returned to Sacramento to not only make my debut as a Power Lifter, but was honored to coach two of my clients to their debuts and my wife to her sophomore competition as well. Seeing my clients and wife do well as a team was a dream-come-true. Seeing two of them win their class was just icing on the cake!
