The Natural Movement - November 2010

Promoting 100% Natural Athletes

Scott, 31, has been training for 11 years and his hard work definitely shows up in his thickly muscled physique. He recently competed in the BNBF Southern, where he secured a second place finish, as well as the “best wheels” award. Scott’s future plans, “I plan to compete again as soon as I can within the limits of family and working life.” Scott’s thoughts on choosing the natural path, “I have decided to train naturally because I want to live as long as I possibly can. This sport keeps me healthy and I would never risk my health.” With Scott’s 11 years of experience, his knowledge can help out many other young natural athletes, “Give 100%. Eat right, train right and recover. This is a fantastic sport but do not make it your whole life, make it part of your life. Bodybuilding can enrich your life when your life is balanced.” 3DMJ thanks Scott for inspiring and supporting “The Natural Movement”!

This is the story of my first bodybuilding competition.

by Scott Galton

I started dieting for this show in January after getting married; my honeymoon and Christmas were enjoyed to the fullest. Now this being my first attempt I was a bit dubious if I was good enough, and if I had the staying power or the confidence to get up there. However, I have wanted to compete for years, so it was now or never. Last year I went to watch the BNBF Southern and I was impressed by how it was all ran and the atmosphere. The chap that won the novice class that year (Karl Airey) was from NEW Milton and trained there so I made contact and moved gyms so I could be in a gym that is good for competitors (THE FOUNDRY). Karl introduced me to the lady and gent that helped him and they agreed to help me. Along the way the cardio increased, the food decreased and my emotions got more and more unstable. Not angry but generally emotional. The last week we depleted (which was draining as you'd imagine) and loaded (which was ace). Friday my wife Jan shaved me all over and on Saturday tanned me up with Jan Tana, we applied 4 coats on Saturday and 1 more coat the morning of the show. We arrived at Bognor Regis nice and early at about 10:30 to minimize stress. Weigh ins were at 11, I was a bit over 62kg on the scale in my hoodie and track pants. So it was not a problem making the lightweight class. It was never my plan to do the novice as I’m a lightweight, so why not jump straight in and be compared with similar bodies. After the show started, the lightweights were on in the middle of the program, so we went back to our changing room and got pumped up. It was a little rushed, so there was no time to get nervous before it was show time. So we all lined up and we were on. The lights were so bright you couldn't see the crowd or even the judges. For a few comparisons I was in the middle of the stage which I was happy with and really enjoyed. We were given a good amount of time on stage to be compared. When we were finished I changed, then joined my wife in the audience. The feedback was good so I was very happy. But to be honest, even if I had been placed last, I had still loved every second on stage. The night show came around quickly and we made sure we were back stage in plenty of time. All the other guys were really nice blokes and we had a good chat and shared our sweets. The posing routines were next and I was on second in my class. So I walked out keeping it tight and did what I had practiced many times. It went really well, I got lots of support and I even added in a few cheeky extra poses

So after we all did our routines it was time for the pose down and I was not going to be ignored at this point. Being a little chap (meaning short), I just ducked under a lot of people to get to the front and had a great time with the other guys, a real blast. I even got a wink from one of the judges.

When my name was called out and I was placed second, I was over the moon. I still can't believe I achieved what I set out to do and then some. The guy that beat me deserved it. He had great condition and a cracking amount of muscle. So after a bit of a chat backstage I went up to be with my wife and Rachel, the lady that has helped me all along. Jan was so proud and so was Rachel. So I was eating my snickers watching the other classes, and Karl from the gym that I train at won the middles and the overall. We were very excited with that result. Then came the final award: best legs. I assumed that it would go to one of the overall guys on stage so I was zoned out a bit. Then my name got called. I ran up on stage but I really couldn't believe it. The best legs award topped off a fantastic day. My plan is to compete in 2011 or at the very latest 2012, so sponsorship would be a great help. As all bodybuilders know, this is a very expensive pursuit. I would just like to thank all the people on the forums for the support My wife Jan

My family Rachel and Rich who prepped me THE BNBF If I have missed anyone, I'm sorry Competing is very hard work and anyone that gets on stage deserves the highest respect. If you haven't tried it out you will be pleasantly surprised if you do.
