I ‘m totally over my cold from last week and I have resumed my normal activity.

Weight
Start Date - 12/06/10 - 206.5lbs
Goal Date – Whenever - Goal Weight – 160lbs
Current – 04/05/11 – 183.4lbs

*Note – I hit 180.6 on Friday 4/1/11, but it was a fluke weigh in. As of Friday, I began taking creatine monohydrate as suggested by my teammates. Because of the creatine intake, recent high sodium levels and Saturday’s big re-feed the scale moved up, but visually I look leaner and much fuller. Monday I was actually 184.4 and I admit it was a bit nerve racking, but I quickly collected myself and I realized it’s nothing to panic over and I’m very confident the scale will go down in the next couple of days. I also got some re-assurance from Eric...thanks Eric!

Today’s Nutrition

180p, 260c, 40f

Cardio
Sunday – 25 minutes on the Treadmill (5 minute walk to warm up followed by intervals of 1 minute jogs and 1 minute walks until I reached the 20 minute mark and then finished with a 5 minute walk to cool down.) Burned about 217 calories which is the same amount as when I do 60 minutes of LISS on the stationary bike. Much more fun too!

Monday - Off

Today – Same as Sunday, but I jogged the final interval for 3 minutes.

Monday’s Weight Training – Upper Body 1

No Turkey!!! This contest prep, I made a conscious effort to really cut down on the amount of meat I eat. Not for any reason’s that are related to bodybuilding, but more to do with my feelings towards animals. My wife has been a huge inspiration for me as she has been a vegetarian for many years. To be completely honest… it never really occurred to me just how much meat I have eaten over my past prep’s. In ’09, in a typical given day I would eat between 8-10 ozs of lean ground turkey. Sometimes I would eat chicken instead, but 98% of the time it was turkey. To get a sense of the amount of turkey I ate over the course of the ’09 season… just multiply 8-10ozs per day by the 224 days I prepped. That equals between 1,792 - 2,240ozs or an astonishing 112 - 140lbs of turkey meat. To put that into perspective, the average weight of a dressed Christmas turkey is 12 lbs according to the Turkey Growers Association of America, so to think between 9 -12 turkeys had to die just for my protein needs really does not make me feel proud and it totally upsets me now. I know I’ve been guilty of looking at a package of meat in the grocery store as just that…a package. I’m not naïve, so I know an animal has to die in order to be consumed, but I never seriously stopped to think and consider that it was an actual life with feelings before it was wrapped up in Styrofoam and plastic. Now…by no means am I judging others who do eat meat as bad people. I’m just sharing my own personal feelings towards the matter. I’m not claiming to be a true vegan because I still on rare occasions do consume meat and I frequently take in milk products and eggs, but I am very proud of myself for cutting down on the amount of meat I have consumed since I began this prep. My main protein sources are whey, eggs, and string cheese…visually or physically I do not see any differences in my physique...now or compared to ’09 by leaving out actual meat sources. So for me personally, my goal will remain to cut down on the amount of meat I eat…maybe someday I will achive my goal of reducing my intake to 0lbs and 0 ozs.

Until my next blog keep training hard, smart and naturally!
