Where do you look to get bodybuilding information?

BBy WNBF Pro Jeff Alberts

Like most individuals looking to see how to learn about bodybuilding, as a beginning natural bodybuilder, I turned to the magazines. I would buy all the mainstream magazines trying to soak up all the articles about training, diet, supplements, and just about everything else. I believed everything I read and saw in these magazines. I continued to buy many magazines for almost 15 years. I was hooked! Then about 4 years ago I realized I was not thinking for myself and I was brain washed by the magazines content and not to mention all of the advertisements. I was not doing the things what my body needed but by doing what someone else was doing in these magazine articles. I remember reading an article about one bodybuilder who would after a workout drink a can of coke. He claimed by drinking a coke it would replenish his glycogen stores faster because of the sugar in the coke. I believed this! It is true the sugar would replenish his glycogen stores faster, but how much nutrition is in a can of coke? Not the healthiest choice to replenish glycogen stores after a hard workout! Could it be this was an excuse just to drink coke? Because he did it, I did it, just because he was in the magazine and he was the big guy. This is the kind of information there is in these magazines and people will follow what is in these magazines. Bodybuilding magazines are sadly the prime source for most individuals trying to obtain information, but you should ask yourself, is the information in the magazines really a good thing for me? I have not purchased a bodybuilding magazine in the last 4 years and it has been a huge relief. Not only has it made me actually think for myself but it has saved me money. It has allowed me to really research for myself what I should be doing for my bodybuilding journey. So the question is where do you look to get bodybuilding information? There are many resources out there other than magazines, the internet, books, and individuals to name a few to help you learn about bodybuilding. When trying to obtain new information and knowledge I find myself asking questions. Is this a good source of information? Is the writer credible? Does the information sound true or is it a gimmick? Is the information just promoting a product? Ask yourself many questions to help you think for yourself. There is plenty of good information out there but finding it and knowing how to use it is the real question. Think for yourself and do not do what Mr. Magazine is doing just because he is the big guy!
