TEAM HEALTHY BODIES WINS 3 CLASSES at the "2009 APA CALIFORNIA "RAW" CHAMPIONSHIPS" in memory of their fallen teammate "Billy Funk" by WNBF Pro Brad Loomis & WNBF Pro Jeff Alberts photos provided by Brad Loomis & Jeff Alberts video by Jeff Alberts TEAM HEALTHY BODIES (Front Row) Suzie Steele, (Back Row) Cindy Wood, Brad Loomis and Jamie Loomis “Team Healthybodies" traveled to Sacramento, The first lift of the day was the Squat. In order for the lift to count, the top of the hip must descend below the top of the knee. First up was 56 year old Suzie, she was successful at lifting 85lbs, Jamie Loomis completed a great lift of 155lbs, Cindy Wood was impressive with 160lbs, and Brad set a new Personal Record with a gallant lift of 360lbs. The second lift of the day was the bench press. The bench press is the most technically difficult lift due to all of the criteria that must be met in order for the lift to count. Lying on their back, the competitor must bring the bar to the top of the chest, let it touch, stop, and then press the weight back up once the command “press” is given. The butt cannot come off the bench and the bar cannot be racked until the rack command is given. On her last try, Suzie handled 70lbs on the lift. Cindy pushed up 115lbs, and Brad was successful at 260lbs. Jamie Loomis was a victim of a miscommunication when the league had her starting weight as 120lbs instead of 110lbs. Unfortunately, Jamie was not able to meet the criteria on any of her three attempts on the bench press. The final and most exciting lift of the day was the dead lift. The competitor must pick the weight up off the floor and in one continuous motion, lock out the knees, lower back, and shoulders in a vertical position. All four members of Team Healthy Bodies shattered their personal records on this lift.
Suzy Steele with total concentration attempting her personal best in the deadlift, 150lbs.
Suzie was all smiles after being successful with 150lbs.
Cindy Wood knocked out her personal record with a 210 lb. deadlift!!
Jamie Loomis fiercely pulled her personal record of 210lbs. in the deadlift.
Brad managed to crank out 450lbs that took a full 5 seconds to complete, as if he were a diesel truck pulling a heavy load! Suzie won the women’s 50 – 56 year old category in the 148lb weight class with a grand total of 305lbs lifted. Cindy Wood won the women’s 50 – 56 year old category in the 181lb weight class with a total of 485lbs lifted. Brad won the “Open Men” in the 181lb weight class with a grand total of 1,070lbs lifted. Jamie did not have a final placing as she had no score in the bench press. This happens quite often in powerlifting meets. The team dedicated all of their lifts to their fallen teammate, Billy Funk, who was killed in an auto accident on October 31st of this year. Billy may not have been physically there, but he was there in spirit helping the team on all their lifts.
