On March 6, 2010 TEAM 3DMJ put on their first ever nutrition and fitness training minicamp at TEAM 3DMJ Coach Brad Loomis' gym: Healthy Bodies Fitness in Portola, California. Portola is a small town, known as The Pride of the West, and it is nestled in the snowy mountains of the upper eastern part of Northern California. The weather at this time of year is very brisk to say the least and with the exception of Coach Brad Loomis who makes Portola his hometown, the TEAM 3DMJ Coaches are unfamiliar to the cold. The minicamp was a huge success. The team gained valuable experience conducting their first minicamp, teaching science-based and common sense approaches to training, nutrition and bodybuilding. The camp was attended by many fitness enthusiasts willing to soak up the vast array of knowledge presented by TEAM 3DMJ.

The minicamp started with inspirational speaking from Coach and 3DMJ's founder Jeff Alberts, who discussed the story behind 3DMUSCLEJOURNEY.COM.  Coach Eric Helms spoke next. He talked in great lengths about his "Relentless Journey" during his 2009 contest season; he had many tough obstacles to overcome but endured to achieve his best condition to date. He then taught how those experiences could be applied by anyone to reach their goals and desires.

Following the inspirational speaking, Coaches Alberto Nunez and Eric Helms opened up the floor for questions relating to nutrition. Those in attendance had a multitude of different questions which made for a magnificent discussion on many areas of nutrition.

Next up was some gym-time with the coaches demonstrating various types of training, ranging from kettle bell techniques, pressing form, squatting movements and Time Under Tension (TUT). Coach Brad Loomis, who is certified as a Russian Kettle bell instructor, was overseeing the kettle bell station and delivering great instruction on proper technique. At the pressing station, Coach Eric Helms discussed the tuck, Valsalva maneuver, j curve, grip width, proper arch, foot placement, and leg drive. He also went over dumbbells and how to use them to transfer to your bench press. Coach Alberto Nunez was directing the squat station, instructing proper squatting technique and helped many of the participants with their form. Coach Jeff Alberts instructed the arm station in which he went over the TUT (time under tension) technique. TUT is a slower tempo repetition scheme in which you get more out of lighter weight by decreasing the momentum of particular movements. It is also a great tool to prevent injuries from occurring. The participants rotated through the four different stations and were able to get firsthand knowledge from all four coaches.

An awesome potluck lunch followed with a variety of healthy food ranging from lean deli meats, breads, vegetables, fruits, colorful salads, and even some tasty desserts to get the participants ready for their upcoming session of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). While eating the incredible lunch, the participants and the coaches had the opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level. Also, Coach Brad Loomis demonstrated his simple microwave cooking techniques for the fitness-fanatic on the go. He whipped up a low fat egg and cheese omelet followed by his signature low fat pumpkin cake which took less than 20 minutes to finish in total!

After a thorough discussion on HIIT by Coach Eric Helms, everyone was motivated to head downstairs for a challenging HIIT session. The coaches were encouraging as they put the participants through their paces using the many various types of equipment, including elliptical trainers, stationary bikes, treadmills, kettle bells and light free weights.

Everyone gathered again for a final in-depth question and answer session. The Coaches were impressed as those in attendance were asking very informative questions. After the question and answer session and after a very enlightening and tiring, but terrific training camp, the day came to a close. TEAM 3DMJ would like to thank all the participants for coming out and for supporting this awesome event!

TEAM 3DMJ will be planning more training camps in the near future, so stay tuned for more information!
