The 2010 WNBF California Natural Nationals Review By Eric Helms, photos by Paul Tomko and Tiffany Nelson The second WNBF Pro show ever to come to California was held on Saturday July 10th 2010 in beautiful San Diego California. This event was promoted by WNBF Pros Leroy Perry and Mary Bell. Twelve professional bodybuilders showed up to compete and alongside the pros, the amateurs fought for their chance to win a pro card in the INBF SoCal Classic. Back in early June, 3DMJ Posing Client and our close friend Luis Burgos, won his WNBF Pro card at the INBF NorCal Classics. After his win, Luis set his sights on the California Natural Nationals in San Diego to see how he’d stack up against the pros. Luis pushed hard to improve his conditioning to come in tighter for his pro debut and it paid off! Luis was in the heavyweight division and faced fierce competition from the hugely muscled James “Jimbo” Collins who was also making his pro debut after winning the INBF Buckeye earlier this year.
After a hard fought prejudging Luis was able to edge-out the other heavyweight competitors and Jimbo in a close decision that came down to mass vs. symmetry. Both athletes were quite impressive, but that night the judges deemed Luis’ aesthetic lines slightly superior to the impressive mass of James Collins. Luis not only won his WNBF Pro Card at his first show, he also captured the Heavyweight Pro title at his pro debut!
Collins on the right, took 2nd place in a decision that came down to apples vs. oranges In the lightweight division WNBF Pro Rob Moran made a triumphant return to the stage, winning his division and displaying a world class physique. Slabs of muscle and grainy conditioning were highlighted by his side shots and back double biceps pose.
Rob faced some solid competition, but it was clear that his combination of size and conditioning was simply on another level. Later that night, the two division winners Rob Moran and Luis Burgos would vie for the coveted overall title and additional prize money. The stage shook as the men took the platform and after another round of comparisons and an action-packed pose down, Rob was crowned the champion!
Afterwards, Luis and Rob shared a celebratory dinner, displaying professionalism and treating one another with respect. Rob happens to be an executive at Scivation, a high-quality supplement company that has been supporting natural bodybuilding for years. We want to thank Scivation for their support of natural bodybuilding and specifically for their support of Team 3DMJ by supplying samples of their supplements to all the attendees of our 2010 Natural Bodybuilding Seminar that was held that same weekend in Sacramento California.
A big congrats to Luis for an amazing breakout season and a big congrats to all the athletes who competed this weekend! |
