Team 3DMJ at the 2010 APA West Coast Regional “RAW” Powerlifting Championships by Brad Loomis
More than 60 athletes and their families filled the newly renovated Body Tribe Fitness on November 20th for the APA West Coast Regional Power Lifting Championships in downtown Sacramento California. Three flights of Power Lifters took over 12 hours to complete a meet that was filled with State, American and World Records. Five members of Team 3DMJ were there to do damage, and damage they did. 3DMJ spouse and veteran Power Lifter Jamie Loomis was looking to finally break a 500lb total at this meet. Jamie has numerous class wins to her name, but was yet to break the quarter ton mark. Usually a slow starter in the squat, Jamie finished with a personal best and got 3 whites on a textbook squat of 165lbs. A 110lb bench press was the best she could do in her most difficult lift of the competition. In the dead lift, she tied her personal best of 225lbs on her second attempt, but could not quite lock out 240lbs on her final attempt. It did not matter though as Jamie would total exactly 500lbs to win the 181 to 198lb sub-master class. Jamie Loomis 20 year old Scott Brown attended the 3DMJ bodybuilding Seminar in Rancho Cordova this June and made the West Coast Regionals his sophomore power lifting event. Scott kept the team on the edge of their seats as he got three whites on his 3rd and final attempt of 290lbs in the Squat. He tried to do the same in the bench press, but finished with 190lbs on his second attempt. He increased his personal best in the dead lift from 400lbs at last month’s “Billy Funk Memorial” meet to 405lbs. at this meet. Scott’s total of 885lbs was an improvement over his first event and secured him 1st place in the 165lb Junior division. Another Spouse of Team 3DMJ, Barbara Lyon also made the West Coast Regionals her sophomore event. Barb bettered her PR in the squat, raised the bar to 135lbs. Her eyes were set on breaking the California State Record for the 123lb open class in the bench press though. Her opener of 110lbs was simply a continuation of her warm up as she easily got 3 whites. She could see the 130lb record in her sites as she prepared for her second attempt of 125lbs. The lift looked good, but drew controversy as she got 2 reds on the attempt. She went for it again on her third try, but was unable to complete the lift. Her deadlift of 220lbs was another PR bringing her total to 465 which earned her the 123lb Women’s Open Win. Barbara Lyon 3DMJ Coach Brad Loomis was eager to compete in Power Lifting after wearing the Promoters hat at last months APA “Billy Funk Memorial” event in Portola, Brad Loomis All eyes were on the 23 year old member of Team 3DMJ Bryce Lewis, as the 198lb lifter was competing in his first “Raw” event. The event started slow for Bryce as he got a little over zealous on his 2nd squat attempt. His opener of 495lbs looked right on track for him to get in the mid 500’s. However, 555lbs was just too big of a jump. Bryce started to pick up some momentum in the Bench press as he lifted 315lbs on his opening attempt and finished with a press of 355lbs. That momentum peaked in the deadlift portion of the competition. His first attempt of 585lbs was a World Record in the 198lb Junior’s division. His second attempt of 655lbs earned him Elite Status as a 198lb lifter. Bryce was not done though, and both his third lift of 670lbs and his fourth lift of 680lbs were the heaviest lifts of the entire competition and easily secured him “Overall Best Lifter” for the event with a 1,520lb total. Bryce Lewis Team 3DMJ wants to congratulate all of the lifters who competed at the West Coast Regionals and especially to Chip Conrad at Body Tribe fitness for putting on a fantastic meet. |
